Homeopathy – Treats Whole People, Not Just Disease

Homeopathy is a natural choice for healing those suffering from trauma. The beauty of this medicine, beside the fact that it works wonders, is that it treats each person as an individual; remedies are specific and side effects are only those related directly to healing.

But what is it?  In a world full of car chase movies that understands that the bad guys die from a speeding bullet, homeopathy is difficult to understand.  Here it is in a nutshell:

Homeo means “the same” in Greek and pathein means “suffering”.  In the same way that vaccinations work, homeopathy gives the body a little bit of the thing it is suffering from.  “Like cures like”.  This is the underlying principle of homeopathy.

Hahneman presented homeopathy to the world after his remedies had been “proofed”.

He discovered that administering minute quantities of animal, mineral or plant material produced symptoms resembling disease in a healthy person (the control).   These same substances given to a person suffering from those disease symptoms, would cause the reverse effect – the person would recover.

This was an incredible discovery…

His next discovery was a gateway into quantum physics.  He witnessed through this proofing, that when a substance was diluted (potentized) and vigourously shaken, it became much more powerful.  In fact, the more it was diluted, the more powerful it became.  Amazingly, a remedy that was diluted past 6 CH (600 times) contained no molecules of the original substance…  But what there was, were electro-magnetic patterns of the molecules. These electromagnetic patterns had vibrations strong enough to stimulate an immune system in specific ways.

Another essential idea to grasp is the “rebound” effect.  In our traditional western medicine, a patient takes a prescription drug to treat a set of symptoms.  The drug gets rid of the symptoms, but often the condition comes back when the drug is stopped – often more advanced each time it is treated with drugs.  This is the “rebound” effect.  In homeopathy,  you treat the condition with a remedy that causes those symptoms.  This is the first key difference.

The second key difference is that the rebound effect is always an improvement in health in homeopathy (occasionally after an initial worsening at the start of the treatment).  Gradually the progress of disease can be reversed and healing is permanent in many cases.

It is important to know that when a cure is initiated and results are felt, the remedy is stopped.  The vital force of the body takes over. Often, with prescription drugs, this is not the case.  The vital force of the body has not been stimulated and is still unable to handle a chronic or acute condition.  The prescription has to be renewed.

In addition, each homeopathic remedy has a set of symptoms (a profile) which includes physical symptoms as well as an emotional state and behaviour.  Homeopathy acknowledges that health is affected by our emotional and spiritual states. To treat trauma, a homeopath would choose a remedy to closely match the manifestations of trauma and post trauma situations, both emotional and physical.

The following are examples of remedies employed under traumatic situations.

Remember when working with remedies over 30CH, it is important to consult a qualified homeopath.

• At the time of the injury:  Arnica 30ch administered sublingually 5-6 doses every half hour

• For recurrent headaches following, or for past trauma (old injuries) the remedy Natrum Sulphuricum 200CH is recommended

• For spinal injuries following an accident or a fall, Hypericum 30 Ch 2-3 times a day along with Arnica 30 CH.  (Old spinal injuries can also be treated with the same remedies.)

Emotional states can be treated just like physical states.

• For feelings of grief, the remedy Ignatia (Iamara) 30CH is recommended

• For shock, hysteria and intense anxiety Aconitum Napellus 30Ch is a powerful remedy

• Again for shock where there is bleeding, coma or confusion, administer Arnica 30CH.

In addition to single remedies, there are powerful combination homeopathic products put out by companies like Boiron and Heel.  Combination remedies cover a wider spectrum of symptoms, and are successful when symptoms are not specific.  For example, there are general remedies for

• Arthritis
• colds and flu’s
• sleeplessness
• headaches

In my work as a herbalist in a pharmacy, I use homeopathic medicine a lot.  It does not interact – or interfere - with prescription medications.  This means they can be used safely along with traditional western medicine (prescription medications).  When I suggest a homeopathic remedy I know that I am recommending something that will work with the vital force of each person to promote wellness.
