The Science of Miracles
I’ve always been fascinated by miracles but a part of me needs scientific proof to help me believe. This was never a problem for me until I had to ReBuild my life. I had no idea how to do this and no-one around me seemed to know any more than I… Repeatedly I turned to religion but in all honesty I just could not find a religion that I was truly comfortable with. It was a dilemma!
Very strongly I believe in ‘mind over matter’ - a fabulous book that introduces this subject is Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra. This was taught to me by my father when I was just a little girl – although I never really understood how on earth you could ‘will’ your sore throat away and not notice your tonsillitis (which I had about 6 times a year every winter until I was about 14)? But I was always conscious of it – even though I didn’t quite understand it. I adored my dad and he said it was so… Questioning everything fit with my independent streak too.
The first piece of real knowledge – it was a book – that resonated with me and which I just knew represented some of the missing equation for me was Quantum Healing by Dr Deepak Chopra. Here was a scientific western-trained doctor who also embraced the ancient Ayurvedic healing. This was 1991. This book rates among my top ten books of all time - a perfect place to start.
When I was in intensive care in 1985 the doctors all agreed that I would die – or at least be extremely disabled. I knew I would be fine - I had no doubt at all… My biggest panic at the time was before I regained consciousness and I recall the doctors standing over me and talking about turning off my life support. I knew that I needed it for a while and yet there was no way I could communicate with them. Luckily my mom intervened – and later was able to confirm my memories with her story.
Back to those early days and weeks… I felt fine - most of the time - even though I was mostly paralysed. I laughed and joked about my condition - once I was able to speak. I always felt certain and confident that I would be fine. And now, I am fine...
I was able to taste, hear and smell ‘normality’, despite the odd aromas and noises in a crowded hospital. I have no idea whether my brain injury was such that I was unable to ‘grip’ reality? I really don’t know what it was. I do know that on very many occasions the ‘impossible’ has seemed relatively easy… At least to my injured brain! And thank goodness for that.

I can’t stress enough how often I've found that the key to unlocking ‘you’ is hidden amongst some of the personal development materials – books, videos, CDs – out there.
