About Julie
Written by Thomas
Julie was born in London, England where she lived until she was almost four years old. After a couple of years 'up North' in Manchester, she spent eleven years in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, returning alone to boarding school in England at age ten (which she hated, at first). At fifteen she left her protected, 'rarified', all-girls boarding school (which had taken years to settle into) and attended regular highschool. Not the best age for a major change! By the age of eighteen she was expecting her firstborn son… Always determined to turn lemons into lemonade, by twenty-five she had ten employees in her first business venture - a very successful building (construction) and property development company.
Six years later she was in hospital, fighting for her life after a serious brain injury.
When she left hospital, against all odds and having survived a deep coma, there was very little support available for a young mother with three sons who had some serious recovery to do. In fact, she was counseled repeatedly that with a brain injury there was no recovery. She could expect a certain, fairly low level of ‘apparent’ recovery but the brain "was not able to regenerate or repair itself (now know to be untrue)…" Instinctively Julie knew this was wrong – for her at least. Somehow she never doubted for a moment that she would recover and the search for alternative therapies began. At this point she married a man she'd known for 5 years who was instrumental in her recovery.
Four years later, only close observation gave away her disabilities. Julie battled with exhaustion, balance, dizziness and a dozen other little symptoms – which made raising her three young sons a daily challenge. However, a year later her fourth son was born (also against medical advice) and as he grew, Julie flourished. By the time this little boy was four she was working full time with her husband on their public farm, leading large school groups learning about genetic diversity and giving milking demonstrations (having been brought up in deserts and cities!?).
would take up counselling. Here she discovered a profession that she fell in love with, in particlar relationship counselling. Now, many years and several careers later, Julie has built a website so that her experience – and that of many other survivors of various types of trauma – can be shared with those facing rehabilitation now. Your recovery can be less isolating, wasteful of years of your time, expensive (some therapies just don’t work) and soul destroying. It can also be affordable.
There have never been so many different types of therapy available and plenty of random information about them. However there is little in the way of guidance and co-ordination of all these services. ReBuildingYou will help you sort through this maze and guide you to develop your own living rehabilitation blueprint. All of this help is free…
There is also a directory-with-a-difference where you can learn about each type of therapy. New therapies are discovered all the time and here we have them explained - direct from a professional therapist. You can also read a client’s experience of them. Once you’ve done that and want to find out what types of therapy are available in your area, you can read about your local therapist and their practice – before you call them.
You'll also find a hub of societies and associations available to support you while you rebuild and contacts of other support groups.
Therapists can advertise for free until the end of December 2010) when there will be a small charge of $9.95 (for 12 months) introduced to cover internet costs. In June 2011 a regular, competitive cost for therapists will be introduced – other websites charge from $125 - $360 a year; we expect to charge existing members about 39.95 a year.

She would love to work with you (as an individual) to help you find and polish your sparkle. She uses an eclectic blend of Personal Coaching, NVC (Compassionate Communication), Imago Method and Trust Oriented Therapy - which is a unique and very successful blend of therapies - to develop change and ReBuild people.
Several of her favourite books are shown here (above, opposite and below): Imago Therapy in Action by Wade Luquet; Compassionate Communication or NVC by Marshall Rosenberg; Rebuilding When Your Relationship Ends by Dr Bruce Fisher. Another favourite - which is an absolute miracle and is quite unique - is 'What I Mean Is..." by Hilary Dibben and Anita Kess - a speech therapy workbook including hundreds of questions for high-functioning, neurologically impaired working toward a good recovery.
Julie still offers some individual and couple counselling (and coaching) in both her office in Victoria and online coaching here through ReBuildingYou.
Julie has also had coaching groups for survivors of trauma (People Need People To Heal) - and separately for their caregivers (Avoid Burnout, Making Room For You). "I would love to run any of these groups but I do need someone to offer to do the administration and organizing required" she says - participation in the group for the administrator is FREE...
'Rebuilding After Your Relationship Ends' groups are a great way to work through breakup of your marriage and begin to embrace singlehood. It's so much easier in a group with support of new friends going through the same experience. As mentioned before, Julie would love to run any of these groups but does need someone to offer to do the administration and organizing required in return for their participation.
Julie has personal experience of physical and emotional trauma as well as a large family and divorce, which help her understand your issues. Work together with her to take back control of your life.
Julie believes that if we can truly connect with ourselves and understand and link our actions and reactions with our minds and conscious and unconscious thoughts, we can master our pasts and find a happier life.
"Every single one of us has a hero buried deep within them and I pledge to help you uncover that
hero and find peace and success in your life."
